Al menos siete personas murieron y otras 25 resultaron heridas este martes en un atentado suicida cometido durante un mitin electoral en el este de Afganistán, indicó una autoridad provincial. El kamikaze activó su carga durante un acto organizado por el candidato Abdul Nasir Mohmmand en la provincia oriental de Nangarhar, señaló un portavoz del gobernador provincial, Ataullah Khogyani. Algunos de los heridos se hallan en estado crítico, agregó Khogyani. Los preparativos para las largamente aplazadas elecciones legislativas, convocadas finalmente para el 20 de octubre, se han visto empañados por la violencia. Cinco candidatos han muerto en ataques, según la Comisión Electoral Independiente, y se teme que la violencia aumente a medida que se acerca la fecha de los comicios. Los talibanes y el grupo yihadista Estado Islámico anunciaron su intención de perturbar el proceso electoral.
